First level checking of EVMs begins in Puducherry

A four-member team of engineers of the Bharat Electronics Limited Bangalore today commenced initial checking of electronic voting machines here in the context of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The process will go on till September 10, Deputy Collector A Vincent Rayar said in a release.
The process of checking 857 control units and 1,473 ballot units relating to Puducherry region began at the office of the Deputy Collector (Revenue-North) in the presence of representatives of various political parties.
The Deputy Collector is the Special representative appointed by the Election Commission.
All the correctly functioning EVMs would be sealed with special coloured stickers and deposited in the hard room of the Department of Elections.

The seals would also be affixed with the signatures of representatives of political parties before whom the demo would be conducted. The whole process would be videographed, the release said.
