Five burglars arrested

Five persons, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly being involved in the incidents of burglaries and motor-vehicle thefts, police said today.
In view of the incidents of burglaries in South Campus, especially in Shanti Niketan area, including a break-in at a French diplomat's house, policemen in plainclothes were deployed to nab the accused.
On May 17, police received information about a gang of burglars assembling in the area of Shanti Niketan.
A team was formed and a trap was laid at Natthu Chowk, south Moti Bagh, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ishwar Singh.
Three persons - Roshan Massi (18), Sharon Kant (19) and Monu (27), riding a two-wheeler without a number plate, were nabbed following a long chase. It was found that the scooter had been stolen from South Campus in March this year, police said.
The accused persons revealed that they used to steal the vehicles during the day and during the night, they committed burglaries in houses.
During investigation, their associates Vicky Rawat (24) and receiver of stolen property Anju Chauhan (25) were also arrested.
With the arrest of the five persons, police claimed to have worked out 55 cases of burglaries, thefts and motor- vehicle thefts in South Campus, RK Puram, Sarojini Nagar, Saket, Safdarjung Enclave and Hauz Khas.
Police have recovered stolen silver, gold jewellery, cell phones, laptops, scooters, US dollars 315 in cash from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Munirka here.
On May 4, they had allegedly entered a French diplomat's house in Shanti Niketan for committing burglary but when they did not find anything valuable there, they left the house. Then, they targeted the house of a retired IAS officer in the same building.
On May 6, they decamped with stolen cash and foreign currency worth Rs 6.93 lakh from another house in the area.
In September 2016, they committed burglary in broad daylight at a house in Shanti Niketan which belongs to a doctor and had stolen cash and jewellery. The stolen jewellery articles were given to Chauhan who mortgaged them and took gold loan of Rs 1.35 lakh.
Massi, who is the leader of this gang, is a fan of Justin Bieber. He wanted to become a pop singer and had plans to go to Mumbai.
In order to fund his dreams of becoming a pop singer, his got addicted to drugs and expensive lifestyle, he resorted to committ burglaries.
