Five held for robbing 8 kg gold from jeweller in Bareilly

Uttar Pradesh Police today arrested five persons in connection with a heist in which eight kg of gold was looted from a city-based jeweller last week near here.
On June 3, Abhilash Agarwal was returning to Bareilly from Lucknow with the gold when he was looted by five miscreants.
"Officials of the crime branch, Special Task Force and surveillance were pressed into action. The team arrested three persons -- Sonu alias Savarjit, Pradeep Kohli and Satru Singh. Two jewellers Sachin and Virendra have also been arrested," Additional Director General of UP Police B L Meena said today.
The looted gold and cash worth Rs 5.52 lakh was recovered from them, he said.

The police have also launched a search for Agarwal's former driver Manoj on the suspicion that he was involved in the heist, Meena said.
Agarwal was accosted on the busy Bareilly-Lucknow highway, 35 km from here. The jeweller was returning from Lucknow from where he purchased the gold. He told police that the robbers fled towards Shahjahanpur, the ADG said.
Eight teams of police were for to nab the culprits, Meena said.
