"Troops stationed on the LoC in Maidan Nala area in Uri sector observed movement of five to six terrorists trying to enter our area. On being asked to surrender, they opened fire on our troops, who retaliated, resulting in the killing of five terrorists," Defence spokesperson Lt Col J S Brar said.
He said the bodies of four militants, along with four AK rifles and other ammunition, have been recovered.
"The body of the fifth terrorist is yet to be recovered as the area of operation is in very close proximity to the LoC," the spokesman said, adding that the identity of the slain militants is yet to be established.
This is the first infiltration bid by militants to enter the Valley this year.
