The deceased were returning to Lucknow from visit to Shirdi in Maharashtra, Gulganj police station in charge Avneesh Pandey told PTI.
The deceased were identified as Pradeep Tripathi (45), his wife Shobha (40), their son Priyansh (22) and daughter Swati (20). The fifth victim was identified as Mansi Bajpai (28), possibly a relative or an acquaintance, he said.
The two vehicles seemed to have collided while trying to avoid a cow that had come on the road, police said, adding that further probe is on.
