The Centre also received in the recent past similar proposals for greenfield airports in some other areas, Minister of State for Civil Aviation G M Siddeshwara said in reply to a question.
The airports being developed either through the states' own expenses or through PPP mode are those at Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra, Bijapur, Gulbarga, Hasan and Shimoga in Karnataka, Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh and Mopa in Goa.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) was providing technical assistance for the detailed project reports and undertaking pre-feasibility studies for clearance of proposed sites, he said.
Considering the phenomenal growth in the aviation sector and interests shown by various state governments for developing more airports, the central government had introduced a policy for approval of greenfield airports in 2008, under which these proposals were being considered, he said.
