Five students hurt in school bus accident

Five students travelling in a school bus were injured on Tuesday after it collided with two vehicles in Indore in Mahdya Pradesh, police said.

The accident occurred at Radisson Square apparently due to failure of brakes of the bus which belonged to Pragya Girls School, said a Vijay Nagar police station officer.

The driver of the bus, which has since been impounded, fled the spot, he said, adding the girls sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Transport Minister Govind Singh Rajput, who was in Indore, said the government will ensure safety of school students.

"We will draft a new transport policy regarding school buses in which legal accountability of school bus operators will be fixed in the event of an accident," he said.

Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jitendra Singh Raghuvanshi said the fitness certificate of the bus, which met with an accident, has been cancelled.

"Operation of the bus has been stopped. The school management has been directed to produce the bus driver along with his driving license within two days. Suitable legal action would be taken," he said.
