Flier detained for trying to smuggle gold
Press Trust of India Kolkata A flier, who arrived from Dubai, was detained by the Customs authorities at the N S C Bose International Airport for allegedly trying to smuggle gold biscuits, airport sources said today.
M M Ali Akhtar, a resident of Karnataka, was detained by the Customs authorities late last night for carrying gold biscuits weighing 610 gm, the sources said.
Further probes are on, they added.
Earlier yesterday, a man was arrested at the N S C Bose International Airport while he was trying to smuggle 1.25 kg gold hidden in his shoes during customs checking.
The gold was estimated to be worth Rs 34 lakh.
