Schools and colleges, which were given a two-day off for August 2 and 3 opened to sunshine today after days of rain fury claimed eight lives at various places and washed away 19 cattle here, District Collectorate officials said.
The tehsildar and talathis have been asked to make 'panchanamas' of the property and other losses, they said.
The district administration in association with Nashik Municipal Corporation has started cleansing operations at various places as heaps of garbage, plastic bags, and mud filled the banks of Godavari and areas like Bhandi-bazar, Saraf-bazar, Nehru Chowk, they said.
Floods had submerged several prominent temples including the Datta temple, Balaji temple, Maruti temple and Khanderay temple in the city.
Also, for the past few days, due to incessant rains many markets, residential areas and slums in the city were waterlogged throwing normal life out of gear.
Two villages in Niphad taluka were flooded for the past two days due to heavy rains and nearly 103 people were rescued by disaster management personnel.
Tributaries of Nasardi, Waghadi and Saraswati, besides Godavari river, which had crossed the danger mark, were also in spate due to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the irrigation department released 7,974 cusec of water from Gangapur dam at 8 AM while 24,718 cusecs water was released from Darna dam.
