After removal of debris following the collapse of the middle portion of the flyover over a goods train on Wednesday afternoon, the UP line was opened last night and the DN line was cleared for train services this morning, sources in East Central Railway (ECR) zone said.
The Swantrata Senani and Sampark Kranti were the two prominent long-distance trains which ran through the station after the resumption of services, the sources said.
Following the accident, the ECR was forced to cancel several pairs of trains on Muzaffarpur-Hajipur, Muzaffarpur-Motihari-Sugauli rail sections of the Sonepur division.
In a bizarre incident, about 50-feet-long middle portion of the 40-year-old flyover at Maripur caved in and fell on a goods train on November 27 afternoon, leaving 10 persons injured due to fall of some autorikshaws and motorcycles from the flyover.
Two wagons of the goods train was damaged.
An inquiry by Railway Safety Commissioner South East Railway zone S Nayak has been ordered into the incident.
