Fodder shortage: National Grassland Authority to be set up

Centre has decided to set up National Grasslands Authority to tackle the problem of fodder shortage due to shrinking grazing grounds and grassland cover in the country.
National Grassland Authority would be set up soon to conserve grazing grounds and develop fodder, said Devendra Singh and Jai Singh Chauhan, members of the managing committee of Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute (IGFRI) yesterday.
They were addressing a programme and workshop organised by Mathura Vrindavan Hasanand Gochar Bhumi Turst here.
IGFRI alone cannot meet the demand of fodder and seeds in the country and the farmers should be educated about growing fodder in their fields, the members said, adding it would not only enable them to feed their cattle but also help in earning revenue.

For this, special camps are being organised to train farmers in animal rearing, both Singh and Chouhan said.
Recently 40 farmers of Jayapur village which has been adopted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have undergone training and they can now grow fodder according to IGFRI standards, they added.
