Rani, along with her supporters and BSP office bearers, joined the saffron party in the presence of state BJP president Ashok Parnami.
"We take everybody along. Shobha Rani joining the party will strengthen its hold in the area," said Parnami.
Kushwaha was elected an MLA from Dholpur on BSP ticket in 2013.
After being sentenced to life in the murder case of student leader Naresh Kushwaha by a district court, he was expelled from the Mayawati-led party and his assembly membership was terminated.
Currently out on parole, Kushwaha was not seen during the joining of his wife.
