"Banti Jaiswal, a nominated member of Yavatmal Municipal Council and one Sheikh Javed were apprehended today in connection with Diwate's murder," police inspector N M Pant said.
A case under relevant sections of IPC and the Arms Act was registered after Diwate's killing yesterday.
"Investigation in the matter and efforts to nab the other accused are on," said Pant.
Yesterday, six unidentified assailants murdered Diwate at his office here.
The assailants first threw chili powder at Diwate's face, against whom several criminal cases had been registered, and then shot him and also attacked him with swords and daggers at his office on Waghapur road at around 9 am, police had said.
