Vigilance sleuths in Jammu and Kashmir have arrested a former executive officer of Katra Municipal Committee for illegally appointing a sanitation officer in the civic body during his tenure.
A case was registered by the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) against Ravi Kumar and Nitin Sharma on the basis of verification conducted into the allegations of illegal appointment of Sharma as sanitation officer in Katra Municipal Committee in 2006, an SVO official said.
Kumar was the executive officer of the civic body at that time and had carried out the appointment illegally.
The investigation of the case has been taken up and one of the accused Ravi Kumar, the then executive officer has been arrested, the official said.
The verification further revealed that Kumar has projected Sharma's case for regularisation as sanitary inspector without any advertisement or interview being conducted for the said post, he said.
It was also found that the records of the appointment were deliberately misplaced, destroyed during the tenure of Kumar to conceal the act, the official said.
Kumar by misusing his official position and in league with beneficiary extended undue favour and benefit to the said beneficiary by violating rules, he said.
