Elected MLA in three consecutive elections in 1984, 1989 and 1991 on a Congress ticket from Srivaikuntam constituency in Turticorin district, he later joined AIADMK after being with the G K Moopanar-led Tamil Maanila Congress for some time, according to Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.
Along with Daniel Raj, his supporters too joined the Congress party, TNCC said.
