Former NDMC chairman gets 4-yr jail for graft

The then Chairperson of New Delhi Municipal Council PM Singh and three other officers were today sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment in a 2003 corruption case by a local court.
Dwarka Special Court convicted Singh, former IAS of 1972 batch from AGMU cadre and the then Chairperson NDMC, in a case of fraudulently regularising the unauthorised construction and granting of lodging house licence to M/s Centre Point, Kasturba Gandhi Marg.
The other former officers of the civic agency G S Thind, Medical Officer (Health), Dr R Pal, Chief Medical Officer, and Raj Kumar Gupta, Sanitary Inspector were also sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 each was imposed on them, CBI spokesperson said here.

"N K Sharma, then Architect and Subhash Chandra Aggarwal, then Assistant Engineer, both of NDMC were also sentenced to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 25,000 each," the spokesperson said.
The agency said a case was registered by CBI on July 09, 2003 against Singh and others under charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and prevention of corruption act .
"After investigation of the case, two charge sheets were filed. The first charge sheet was filed on June 30, 2006... against Smt P M Singh, Dr G S Thind, Dr R Pal, Raj Kumar Gupta of NDMC and a Private person for having entered into conspiracy with each other in the year 2002-03 for issuing an illegal Health/Lodging House licence dishonestly in the name of M/s Centre Point," it said.
