Pakistan's former Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, facing probe for money laundering and alleged corruption in the Nandipur power project, on Saturday refuted reports of him fleeing the country and said he is in the US to meet his daughters and will return soon.

Soon after he left Pakistan for the US, reports emerged suggesting that Asif fled the country to avoid being arrested by the country's corruption watchdog the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Terming the reports about him fleeing the country as "baseless", the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader said "the purpose of his trip to the US was to meet his daughters, not to escape from the country," Geo News reported.

He said he will return soon.

The former minister's family is in the US and he joined them two weeks ago.

The NAB is probing the allegation of money laundering and corruption in the Nandipur power project against Asif.
