Former peacekeeper takes charge of BSF

Former UN peacekeeper in Congo, Sudesh Kumar, has taken over charge as Inspector General of Border Security Force, Meghalaya Frontier here today, officials said.
The 1987 batch Kerala Cadre IPS officer had worked in BSF Headquarter as IG (Prov), they said.
Kumar has emphasised on the need of effective border management in order to prevent crimes on international border, maintaining cordial relations with the border population, respecting human rights, and welfare of the troops, a BSF statement said.
Officer also served earlier in the BSF in the state as Inspector General from June 25-October 26, 2011 and Feb 1, 2012 to Aug 1, last year, the statement said.
He has had one of the most prestigious assignments in UN as 'Police commissioner' in Congo and was awarded Presidents Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2003.
