Former SSKM hospital director put on 'compulsory waiting'

Former director of state-run super-speciality SSKM hospital Pradip Mitra was today placed under 'compulsory waiting' following his refusal to accept transfer to the College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta hospital even as he declined to make any comment on it.
Sources in the health department said Mitra was placed under 'compulsory waiting' following his refusal to join Sagore Dutta hospital.
Terming his transfer as "demotion", Mitra had sought voluntary retirement but health department sources said VRS was abolished in the department.
When contacted, Mitra said "I have nothing to say right now... Whatever the government feels right, let them do so."

Health Secretary Malay De described the hue and cry over the transfer issue as a creation of the media and said "It's a trivial matter. There is nothing so important regarding the matter. It's only the media which is giving it such importance."
Minister of State for Health Chandrima Bhattacharya, when contacted, declined to comment saying she "has nothing to do with the issue."
Meanwhile, the Health Department during the day transferred SSKM Assistant Superintendent Anirban Ghosal to Jalpaiguri Medical College.
Super speciality SSKM Hospital, which is also the Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research, was set up in the 18th century, while College of Medicine in Sagore Dutta Hospital was established in 2011.
