Murthy, popularly known as Chittibabu, was a former MLA from Prathipadu constituency in East Godavari. He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.
He suffered cardiac arrest this morning and was rushed to Apollo Hospital here, family members said.
Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa later in the day visited the hospital.
Chittibabu was elected as MLA in 2000 but was defeated in the 2004 polls.
