Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Naik laid the foundation stone of the second phase of All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) here on Wednesday.
AIIA has the vision to be an outstanding centre of excellence for Ayurveda tertiary health care and set highest standards of education, research and patient care through traditional medicine, Naik said.
Addressing the gathering, he said the institute would help in imparting skills to Ayurvedic doctors to make them more efficient. He also said that this process would help in offering affordable treatment to people.
Naik said that the phase II of AIIA in Sarita Vihar would comprise eight blocks and three-level basement.
The building would be constructed in an area of 60,966 square metre and the cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 212.36 crore. The project is likely to be completed in 33 months.
"An auditorium with state-of-the-art facilities having 500 seating capacity, AYUSH sports complex, pharmacy unit, central library, panchakarma wing, international guest house, residential complex, boys and girls' hostel are some of the salient features of Phase II construction," Naik added.
The 200-bed AIIA is fully functional and serving around 1,200 patients every day through OPD services.
"Looking into the ever increasing scope of work, extension work of All India Institute of Ayurveda was planned well in advance in form of Phase II. The work has been entrusted to National Projects Construction Corporation Limited," according to a statement.
AIIA was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of 2nd Ayurveda Day celebrated on October 17, 2017.
