"As per the provisional figures of SECC, 2011, approximately four crore rural households are face housing deprivation," Minister of State for Rural Development Ram Kripal Yadav told the Lok Sabha.
"After taking into account the houses built under Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) and state-sponsored housing schemes since 2011, it has been estimated that 2.95 crore more houses, are required to be built to achieve the objective of Housing for All by 2022," he said.
To meet this requirement, the government has set a target of building one crore houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Grameen (PMAY-G), at an expenditure of Rs 81,975 crore in the first phase from 2016-17 to 2018-19, Yadav told the House.
Targets for the remaining period, till 2022, will be set after verification and finalisation of permanent wait lists, based on SECC 2011 data, by all states and Union Territories, he said.
Listing various initiatives taken by the government under the Housing for All scheme, Yadav informed that sufficient funds, both in the form of budgetary support and borrowing from NABARD, will be provided for construction of houses.
