Liberation Tigers (KPLT) ultras were beaten up and handed over to the police by villagers when they came to extort money in Assam's Karbi Anglong district today.

Police said the militants had sent extortion notices to some teachers at Dengaon and when they came to collect the money, the villagers caught them as per a plan.

The villagers then severely beat up the militants before handing them over to the police.

The militants, who have been identified, have been extorting money since 2010, the police added.
