Three members of the gang, including its chief Islamuddin, a proclaimed offender carrying a reward of Rs 1.70 lakh for information on him, were arrested by a team of Special Cell near Nangloi Metro station yesterday, said DCP (Special Cell) Sanjiv Yadav.
Islamuddin shot at an inspector and tried to flee, but the policeman was saved by his bullet-proof vest and he was nabbed.
Two members of his gang, Surender and Salim, were also arrested, the officer said, adding many sophisticated firearms and an SUV were seized from them.
The gang had on June 30 abducted the SHO of DLF Sector 29 Police Station in Gurgaon, beat him up, snatched his belongings and then dumped him in Mathura.
Irshad and Irfan, who received the looted goods, were arrested today, he said.
With these arrests, more than 30 cases of armed robbery and dacoity in various states including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan have been resolved, the DCP claimed.
The gang used to rob trucks transporting copper wires. They used to roam around in stolen cars and SUVs and travel by air and stay in luxury hotels, before and after committing dacoities, the officer said.
