Four more Cong MLAs come out in open against the government

A day after an MLA of the ruling Congress threatened to resign from the Uttarakhand Assembly over alleged lack of development, four more party MLAs today criticised the state government on the issue.
Resentment prevailing among a section of Congress MLAs came to fore after MLAs Hemesh Kharkwal, Mayukh Mahar, Manoj Tiwari and Lalit Farswan complained of lack of development in their constituencies due to "state government's indifference".
"We are accountable to the people of our constituency. The Chief Minister announced about 15 projects in my constituency, out which work began only on three. This has put us in a piquant situation as we have to answer to the people of our constituency," the MLA from Pithoragarh Mayukh Mahar said.

"What would the MLAs do if there is no development in their constituency," said Manoj Tiwari, MLA from Almora.
"After all we have to face the people and do all the explaining if development projects do not take off in our constituency," Tiwari added.
"The Chief Minister announced several development schemes in his constituency in the past one year but work could not begin even on a single one. The bureaucracy has gone beyond the control of the government and people are suffering due to lack of development," Congress MLA from Kapkot Lalit Farswan said.

Party MLA from Champavat Hemesh Kharkwal echoed similar sentiments, saying that the government must show some sensitivity when it comes to development matters.

Yesterday, Dharchula MLA Harish Dhami had threatened to resign from the state Assembly alleging that no development projects in his constituency are being taken up by the state government despite repeated reminders from him.
As resentment escalated in the party, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna approached Union Minister for Water Resources Harish Rawat, asking him to talk to the disgruntled MLAs, who are believed to be close to him.
Rawat arrived in Dehradun late last evening and talked to the disgruntled MLAs at the Bijapur Guest House till late in the night, but failed to dissuade them, party sources said.
Meanwhile, Opposition BJP has begun to fish in the troubled waters by saying that the resentment among Congress MLAs is an indication that the party in power in Uttarakhand has begun to fall apart.

"The statements issued by Congress MLAs against their own government is further proof that development has come to a standstill in the state and the party is falling apart," Pradesh BJP spokesman Prakash Suman Dhyani said.
