Basumatary, wanted in connection with several cases, received bullet injury on his left arm and was admitted to Tezpur Medical College Hospital, police said.
During a joint operation led by the 36 Assam Rifles and army's Gajraj Intelligence, the security forces and the militant group had an encounter at Laigangpara in Batachipur of Sonitpur district, they said.
A 7.65-mm pistol, one magazine, two grenades, two 9-mm cartridges and one detonator were recovered from the militants, police said.
