Prisoner Milton George, who is serving one-year jail term at Sada sub-jail near Vasco town, was admitted to Goa Medical college yesterday afternoon after he complaint of severe headache, a senior police official said today.
The incident took place when the inmate was getting ready to be shifted to another cell yesterday.
A case has been booked with Mormugao police station, the officer said, adding that George, in his statement told the police that the four jail inmates "forced" him to drink phenyl when he refused to pay them Rs 50,000 as a protection money.
Inspector General of Prisons Elvis Gomes said an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
Sada sub-jail was recently in news after tribal anti- mining activist Ravindra Velip had complaint that he was assaulted by four people inside the jail premises.
