CBI has now issued an advisory saying anyone receiving such emails should bring them to notice of the agency.
Some of these transactions found in the emails were later found to be true which intimidated the people receiving them, sources in the probe agency said.
"Certain instances of some e-mails with malicious and misleading content purported to be sent from CBI have come to the notice of Central Bureau of Investigation. The sender(s) falsely claim that Central Bureau of Investigation is monitoring financial transactions of individuals and authenticating/proposing to take action on such transactions," CBI spokesperson said today.
"Some IDs from which these malicious & misleading e-mails have been sent in the recent past are csa@cbi.Gov.In, statepoliceservice@gmail.Com, cbi.Policedesk.India@gmail.Com, cbi-desk@indiapolice.In," the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson refused to give further details of complainant or victims stating that it may affect the ongoing probe.
The probe agency cautioned people that the CBI does not send such mails, and they should not respond to such e-mails.
"Anyone receiving such e-mail(s) should bring it to the notice of the Central Bureau of Investigation, New Delhi at e-mail ID: information@cbi.Gov.In," a CBI statement said.
