Free India from from dirt, poverty, terrorism: Mahesh Sharma

Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma today urged young Indians to imbibe the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi and free India from scourges such as terrorism, corruption and communalism.
Speaking on the 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement and the formation of the Azad Hind Fauj at an exhibition that began today at the National Archives of India, he stressed the need to create a "new India".
"Just like Gandhiji and other freedom fighters called for freedom from the British, the youth should take an oath that they would free India from dirt, from poverty, corruption, terrorism, communalism and casteism and help create a new India dreamt by our freedom fighters and our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi," Sharma said.

The minister said the PM, in his 'Mann ki Baat' address to the nation on July 30, had emphasised the need for the younger generation to know what happened on August 9, 1942.
The exhibition, Sharma said, was a step in that direction.
Based on public records, private papers, photographs, newspaper reports and literature banned by the British Government, the exhibition, which will continue till September 1, focuses on the last phase of the freedom movement.

The exhibition is divided into four sections -- The Prelude to the Quit India Movement, The Actual Movement, The Impact of the Movement and The Indian National Army and Azad Hind Fauj.

"The Quit India Movement was an important milestone in the Indian Freedom Movement which made the entire nation determined to attain freedom from British rule. Millions of Indians responded to Mahatma Gandhi's clarion call and the mantra of 'Do or Die'," Sharma said.
A film on the passing of the Quit India Resolution, the arrest of freedom fighters, the role of the INA and Subhas Chandra Bose also forms a part of the exhibition.
