The decision was taken after Joister Infomedia Pvt. Ltd, a broadband and gaming service provider company approached senior police officers in Thane and offered its free Wi-Fi Internet service at all police stations, said Ashutosh Dumbre, Joint Commissioner of Police of Thane Commissionerate today.
Explaining the need to get connected through internet, Dumbre told PTI, "Its extremely important to get connected with tools of technology at all the time and hence free W-Fi facility to our workforce would work as an added advantage."
Joister has already launched its service at 525 locations catering free Internet to over 2.50 lakh registered users across Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Navi Mumbai cities.
Earlier, Director General of Police, Pravin Dixit himself inaugurated the Free Wi-Fi service at the Thane Commissionarate office on Saturday and said by using the advanced technology, we can conquer increasing crime.
Terming this move to provide free internet connection through Wi-Fi facility, a senior officer of the Thane Police said, "There are 9000 police personnel in Thane district besides over 6000 police-mitras. Hence 15,000 people directly concerned with policing job can avail this facility free of cost, which would subsequently ease our work."
Thanking Thane police, Chairman and Managing Director of the Joister Infomedia Pvt. Ltd. Nikunj Kampani said, "Its all about empowering digital platform. No contracts, no hidden fees, and no fine print. We keep everything as simple and transparent as possible."
