Freemasons to adopt 50 cancer patients for treatment

The congregation of Freemasons from southern states and Goa, beginning here on August 23, will, as part of their first of its kind initiative, deliberate on their proposal to adopt 50 cancer patients this year.
The meeting will work out on the modalities, including identification of the patients requiring monetary assistance, adopt and provide them treatment in GKNM Hospital or Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology here, a Freemasonry release said here today.
About 2,000 members from Southern Region, headed by Arvind Prasad Chitra of Visakhapatnam, will attend the two-day congregation, it said.
One of the recent and most remarkable projects taken up by the Masons at Coimbatore was "Jyothirgamaya" where the project provided solar powered lights to over 500 villages that has never seen electricity so far.

Tribal hamlets near Thalavadi in Erode District and hamlets near Yercaud have been lit, with the contributions of the freemasons.
Freemasonry in India, having 20,000 members, is headed by Vasudev Jamnabihar Masurekar from Mumbai and is administratively divided into four Regions.
