Two tremors of above 4 magnitude and two others above magnitude 3 were recorded in Bajhang district, 650 kilometres west of Kathmandu, according to the National Seismological Centre.
The tremors were recorded within one hour, However, there were no immediate reports of damaged property or casualties, police said.
The earthquake recorded in the afternoon was of magnitude 5.0. The second earthquake recorded at 3.11 was of magnitude 4.2, according to the Centre.
The other two tremors were of 3.8 and 3.6 magnitudes.
The centre also recorded nine other minor tremors today.
The epicenters of the seismic events lay close to Mayana, a far north-east region in ancient town of Chainpur.
