The high altitude tribal areas and mountain passes in Himachal Pradesh received fresh snowfall today while the mid and lower hills had a clear and sunny day.
The Rohtang Pass received 4 cm of snowfall while Koksar and Keylong received 3 cm and 1 cm of snowfall, intensifying the cold wave conditions in the adjoining valley areas, the local Meteorological office said.
The minimum temperature dipped to minus 3.3 degrees Celsius at Keylong while Kalpa and Manali shivered at 0.4 degrees Celsius and 0 degrees Celsius, followed by Mandi 6.4 degrees Celsius, Shimla 6.9 degrees Celsius, Dharamsala 7.2 degrees Celsius and Nahan 8.9 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperatures increased marginally and Una was the hottest place with a high of 26.2 degrees Celsius while Bhuntar and 22.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Dharamsala 17.5 degrees Celsius, Shimla 16.5 degrees Celsius, Kalpa 13.4 degrees Celsius and Keylong 6.5 degrees Celsius, it said.
Mercury stayed between minus 8 and minus 12 degrees Celsius in the high altitude tribal areas and natural sources of water like lakes, springs, rivulets and 70 km stretch of Chandra-Bhaga river has frozen, sharply reducing the discharge of water in the snowfed Sutlej, Ravi and Beas rivers and their tributaries, affecting hydropower generation.
The local Met office has forecast dry weather in the region over the next six days till December 5.
