PSI HM Waghmare of Mahatma Phule Police station in Kalyan said the victim's mother had separated from her first husband as he was an alcoholic.
The woman then married accused Abukalam Ayanul Haq and began living in Ambivli with their 12-year-old daughter, police said.
On June 23, Haq molested the girl and later raped her when she tried to raise an alarm in the absence of his wife, Waghmare said quoting the complaint.
The arrested accused has been charged under sections 376 (rape), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC and relevant sections of the POCSO Act of 2012, police said.
