Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre stated this in the Rajya Sabha in response to a query on whether the country's defence capability needs to be enhanced in view of the ongoing standoff with China in Doklam.
"The government is fully seized of the security needs of the country. Government regularly reviews the threat perception to secure our borders and protect national interest," Bhamre said.
He said appropriate measures are taken from time to time to maintain the defence preparedness along the borders to safeguard the sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of India.
India and China have been locked in a face-off in the Doklam area of the Sikkim sector for 50 days after Indian troops stopped the Chinese Army from building a road in the area.
China claimed it was constructing the road within their territory and has been demanding immediate pull-out of the Indian troops from the disputed Doklam plateau. Bhutan says Doklam belongs to it but China claims it to be its territory and says Thimphu has no dispute with Beijing over it.
"There are areas along the LAC including Uttarakhand where both sides have differing perception of the LAC. The government regularly takes up any transgression/air space violation along the LAC with the Chinse side through established mechanism," said Bhamre.
Replying to another query, he said force structure of the Army depends on contemporary security environment and dynamic geo-political realities so as to ensure its relevance as a formidable force against potential adversaries.
