The gang members were allegedly behind getting insurance claim of an alive person, identified as Jitendra Singh, by giving his forged death certificates to different companies, the state's Special operation group (SOG) official said.
"The accused purchased insurance policies from four different companies in the name of Jitendra Singh. And later showed him dead in a road accident by producing fake post- mortem reports and police reports and in the insurance companies," Additional Director General (SOG) Umesh Mishra said.
Those accused in the case include Ramesh Chandra, an assistant sub-inspector; Dr Satish Kumar Khandelwal, a senior doctor at the government hospital; Chaturbhuj Meena, a lawyer; and three others identified as Raghuraj Singh Chouhan, Rajesh Kumar and Yash Chouhan.
According to Mishra, the whole incident came to light when a representative from an insurance company -- the one from which the accused did not claim the insurance money -- while verification of documents found the report bogus and informed the police about it.
When probed the matter, Jitendra Singh was found alive in Delhi. Prima facie, he too is involved in the matter and would be caught soon," he said.
