Acting on a tip-off, police officials accompanied by a special operation team of the Nigam arrested three accused - Surender Kumar, Naveen Kumar and Parvesh - yesterday in this connection, Managing Director of UHBV, Nitin Yadav said here today.
The accused were allegedly paid by UHBVN consumers for tampering the reading in the electricity meters, thus reducing the bill amount, he said.
"They used to destroy the accumulated meter reading using UV Rays with the help of a machine. They changed the three phase supply by connecting the load to direct supply and at the time of meter reading, again changed it back to the three phase supply," Yadav said.
The special operation team also examined the premises where the meters were tampered and later seized them, he said.
As of now, the loss amount assessed is to the tune of Rs 15 lakh which is most likely to increase following further interrogation and other accused are apprehended, Yadav said.
