Police said the gang owned an auto Rickshaw which they used to ply between Apsara Border to Mohan Nagar along the national capital and would steal from the unsuspecting passengers who hired their auto service.
Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police Prashant Kumar told PTI that during a routine vigil on the stretch of Raj Nagar road extension and Morti crossing, the police wanted to stop an auto rickshaw but the miscreants from inside fired at the police.
The police personnel went after the auto and nabbed the gang of thieves of four from the vehicle.
All the four are residents of Sahibabad, an industrial town adjacent to New Delhi.
The thieves admitted that they were involved in about 40 cases of thefts and robbery, the police said, adding, two persons who used to buy the stolen goods from the gang of thieves were arrested.
