Trouble began in the morning when the kingpin of a gang, Akhilesh Singh, along with his supporters, came to the court to surrender after completing two months parole, senior SP Amol V Homkar said.
Three members of a rival gang arrived at the court at the same time and tried to attack Akhilesh triggering a clash between the two groups.
One of the trio identified as Sarbjit Singh was badly thrashed by Akhilesh's supporters and was rushed to a local hospital with serious head injuries, Homkar said.
Akhilesh, who was serving a life term in connection with a decade-old murder case, was granted two-month parole for his father's treatment.
Police also detained one woman, whose involvement in the incident was yet to be established, Homkar said.
Though court operations ran smoothly, a huge police team was deployed at the premises.
