A close aide of alleged gangster Neeraj Bawana today approached a Delhi court seeking direction to Tihar Jail authorities to enhance his security inside the jail, alleging he was assaulted in custody.
In his application moved before Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Pandit, Bawana's associate Deepak Dabas claimed he was beaten "black and blue" inside Tihar central jail here by officials.
The court has fixed June 1 for considering the application, which has sought direction to DG Prison to ensure the safety of the accused and conduct an enquiry in this matter. Dabas in currently lodged in Tihar jail.
In the application on behalf of the accused, advocate M S Khan said "in the night of May 13, deputy superintendent, along with others, threatened him and beaten him black and blue and this was again repeated on May 24."
"A few months ago as well, the jail authorities had beaten the applicant (Dabas) in the same jail and in the view of the previous acts, there was an apprehension that he will be attacked again," the counsel said.
Special Cell of Delhi Police named Dabas and Bawana in a charge sheet, along with several others, for allegedly running an organised crime syndicate in Delhi-NCR region.
The police listed them in the charge sheet for the alleged offences punishable under the provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
