In a notification by Gauhati University Registrar S K Nath yesterday, the three students - Milton Handique, Rejaul Karim and Writtick Saikia - were allowed to appear in their onging examinations.
"As directed by the Vice Chancellor, GU, it is hereby informed to all concerned that the students... Who were expelled vide notification, dated May 26, 2016, issued by the office of the Secretary, University Classes, are hereby allowed to appear in the respective forthcoming examinations.
"It is hereby also notified that the earlier expulsion notification (Memo No: GU/SUC/RHDB/Notice/2016/3419-3508) stands cancelled," the order said.
Handique and Karim are students of LLB sixth semester and Saikia is from fourth semester of Communication and Journalism.
As soon as the order was handed over to him, Handique fell ill due to shock and started vomiting. His friends admitted him at a private hospital and he was undergoing treatment in the ICU.
Following this, student organisations, including SFI, SMSS, AISF and NSUI, jointly launched a series of protests in the University in the last few days.
Bowing under pressure, on May 31, the University authorities announced review of the expulsion order.
The University also announced to bear all expenses of Handique's treatment.
