"Presently, two circles have been made operational. They have a capacity of over 2,600 prisoners. Third circle will be completed soon ," said Deputy Jailer Rajinder Singh.
Over 1,700 prisoners of Gautam Budh Nagar are lodged in the Ghaziabad jail at Dasna. Around 70 of them were shifted to the new jail here today.
Situated in Luksar village, the jail is built on 36 hectares at an estimated cost of Rs 192 crore.
Once completed, it will have 35 barracks and will be able to lodge 3,550 prisoners.
District Magistrate A V Rajamouli yesterday visited the jail and gave clearance for its official opening.
