The managing committee of Goa Cricket Association (GCA) today passed a resolution that its president Vinod Phadke should step down to avoid a de-recognition of the body.
The committee met at Porvorim today.
The government has issued a show-cause notice to GCA for failing to adhere to the recommendations of Justice Pendse commission, which probed the tickets scam during the 2001 India-Australia match.
The commission had said that Phadke should not be a part of the managing committee. Following this, the state-run Sports Authority of Goa issued a notice to GCA, threatening to de-recognise it.
"Majority of the members resolved that Phadke should step down. Now it is for him to accept the resolution or reject. If he does not do that we will take our further action," said Shekhar Salkar, GCA vice president.
However, Phadke has refused to quit and has asked the state government for 15 days time to submit a reply to the show-cause notice.
He also said that Salkar, who headed a faction within the GCA, had been asking for his resignation for long and there was nothing new in the resolution.
