A fight broke out between supporters of two panels contesting polls to fill posts of office-bearers and seats under ordinary membership category of the apex industrial body of the state, an official supervising the proceedings said.
"A scuffle was reported between the supporters of two panels contesting ordinary category seats in GCCI elections," former IAS officer P K Lehari, appointed Election Officer for the polls told PTI.
The brawl took place when supporters of the two groups -- Rising panel and President panel -- exchanged angry words and traded charges, he said.
Sources in GCCI said the trouble started after city-based businessman Madan Jayaswa, leading the Rising panel, complained that supporters of the other group were trying to influence voters.
The regulatory and administrative body for state-based industries had organised polls for the posts of senior Vice-President, Vice-President and eight seats under ordinary membership category.
According to Lehari, 1,450 of the total 3,240 registered voters took part in the polls, translating into a turnout of over 40 per cent.
The results are likely to be declared tomorrow afternoon, he added.
