Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot today condemned the attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Kashmir and demanded an inquiry into the matter.
Through a series of tweets, Gehlot said that there must be an inquiry as to how the bus, which was attacked, was travelling without security cover and after permitted hours.
"I condemn strongly the attack on Amarnath pilgrims, in which devotees have been killed. It is a cowardly act to target peaceful pilgrims. Nefarious designs of terrorists must be defeated. India will never be bogged down," Gehlot said in his tweets.
The senior Congress leader claimed that the attack on Amarnath pilgrims was a "grave security lapse" which occurred despite intelligence inputs.
"My thoughts and prayers are with bereaved families. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured," he tweeted.
Meanwhile, various organisations across the state protested against the cowardly terrorist attack on pilgrims.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal activists burnt an effigy of terrorism at a government hostel here.
State convener of Bajrang Dal, Ashok Rajawat said that it was meticulously planned attack on pilgrims, something like which had never happened in the last 17 years.
The People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) also expressed their anguish at the dastardly attack by wearing black ribbons at the Gandhi Circle area here.
