Four of her seniors, all females, and the faculty member were arrested today, they said.
Anita Sharma (18), pursuing her B-Pharma second year course from the RKDF College, hanged herself yesterday at her residence in Jeevan Vihar Society here, police said.
A note, purportedly written by Anita, blamed her four seniors and the faculty member for the suicide, police said.
According to the note, the girl's seniors had been allegedly ragging her from the time she got admission in the college. They forced her to write their mid-semester copies and when she brought this to the notice of faculty member, identified as Manish, he asked her to obey her seniors if she wanted to continue in the college, police said.
Police arrested her four seniors, identified as Nidhi, Dipti, Divyanshi and Preeti and faculty member Manish, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dilip Singh Tomar told reporters.
They were arrested on the charge of abetment to suicide, he added.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today directed the authorities to seriously deal with the issue of ragging.
State Chief Secretary R Parsuram also chaired a meeting in this regard and directed officials to take stern measures to prevent recurrence of such an incident.
