24-year-old Inderpreet Kaur, a biotechnology student of the university, was found lying on the ground floor of multi-storey environment block in the campus, DCP Koustav Sharma said.
She was rushed to the university hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead, he said.
Her parents insisted on shifting Inderpreet to a private hospital, where multiple bone fractures along with a damaged spine were detected, Sharma said.
The girl's classmate told police that Inderpreet was having an affair with a boy from Himachal Pradesh, who had left her in lurch and got involved with another girl.
