Police have detained several people for questioning in connection with the alleged murder and rape of the girl.
Few passersby informed police about a body lying in a plot of land in the area yesterday, a police officer said.
He said that a police team rushed to the spot and moved the body to the Government Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem.
"From the injury marks on her body, it seems that the girl was first raped and then murdered, we are waiting for the post-mortem report to come," he said.
