Ajaz Ahmad Dar,a lorry driver by profession, threw acid on the girl at Langate in Kupwara after she rejected his marriage proposal, a police official said.
He said the girl's face and body suffered partial burn injuries in the attack and she was rushed to a hospital for treatment where her condition is stated to be stable.
While the accused is at large, his friend Abbas Najar, who brought the acid to the scene of the incident, has been arrested, the official said.
