Girl, mother consume acid; police registers case against man

A woman died while her daughter is admitted to a hospital after the two consumed acid here following constant harassment from an autorickshaw driver, who was infatuated by the girl and wanted to marry her.
While the mother died during treatment at Escorts hospital yesterday, the girl is in serious condition and is being treated at B K hospital here, said police.
The man fell in love with the girl who he used to ferry to her school in autorickshaw till last year. He subsequently arranged her mobile number through a common friend and started calling and kept pressurising her for marriage.

Around a week back, he called up at the girl's place and mentioned his desire of marrying the victim to her mother.
The girl then told everything to her mother and also alleged that he has taken her pictures and now he threatens to make it public, said police.
Facing harassment and fearing social stigma, the mother drank acid. Later the girl also consumed acid.
The police has registered the case against the driver and has initiated investigations.
